Talk about a night to remember. On September 3, members of Canadian media and several of Canada’s cultural communities came together to celebrate the launch of 3, our new luxury lifestyle magazine. A collaboration between St. Joseph Communications and 369 Global Inc., 3 is the first magazine of its kind in the country. It focuses on, and shares stories about, third-culture individuals in Canada. The goal is to celebrate our experiences, our stories, and — most importantly — our communities.
So, it only makes sense that the venue for the party was the stunning Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
The evening kicked off with a land acknowledgement and opening ceremony from Grandmother Kim, who is Ojibway, Potawatomi and Caribbean in ancestry, a band member of Shawanaga First Nation and TurtleClan, followed by opening remarks from 3 Publisher and 369 co-founder and chairman Muraly Srinarayanathas, as well as 3’s editor-in-chief Stacy Lee Kong. Later, guests enjoyed a performance from Brooklyn-born, Montreal-raised singer Zeina, before spending the evening mingling, dancing and enjoying a variety of delicious — and culturally diverse, naturally — dishes.

Speaking to the crowd in their opening remarks, both Srinarayanathas and Lee Kong shared their personal experiences of, and relationships to, the immigrant experience, with Srinarayanathas noting how— by virtue of the demographic 3 is geared towards — the goal of the launch is to make history. “3 is ambitious,” he said. “We hope to appeal to those who thrive on the complexity and richness of our interconnected world.”
When she highlighted the premiere issue’s cover story on DMZ founder Abdullah Snobar, Lee Kong recalled a conversation with senior editor Melissa Vincent, who wrote the story, about how this particular story is one only this specific team and this specific magazine could tell.
“Our goal with 3 is to do that with every story, and in every issue,” she said. “To tell stories that are overlooked elsewhere, and to do so in a way that honours our identities, perspectives and communities.”
