A look at any of the major catwalks over the past two years has made one thing clear: the aesthetic of the American West is as prevalent as ever. From Isabel Marant’s flurry of fringe and feathers to Prada’s take on city-ready cowboy boots and western-inspired heels, this season has brought an elevated take on western style.
And now, the trend is expanding its scope and entering the world of luxury travel. Across the globe, high-end luxury resorts are offering a sophisticated take on the ranch lifestyle — with ample indulgent amenities and one-of-a-kind experiences. From the cliffs of New Zealand’s coast to the plains of Montana, these five luxe ranches are well worth visiting.

Whitestone Ranch, Whitestone Lake, Ontario
One of the newest additions to the Wild West travel experience is in Ontario’s Northern Muskoka region. The 15,000-sq. ft., 33-acre lakeside resort, which opened in early 2025, is outfitted with 14 luxury suites designed to connect guests with nature, surrounded by scenic hiking trails, gorgeous wildflower fields and calming ponds. In line with its location in Canada, as opposed to the Midwest, Whitestone Ranch isn’t a place with hay bales and horseshoe decor; instead, they’ve emphasized rustic living with sophisticated amenities. Guests can enjoy full-service catering by a private chef, with a focus on farm-to-table dining, as well as luxury services at the ranch’s on-site spa. For those looking to get in the spirit of the west, horseback riding lessons at nearby Crooked Creek Ranch are the perfect outing for both beginners and experienced riders. And golfers can have their fill, too, with access to The Ridge at Manitou, a nearby course.

The Ranch at Rock Creek, Philipsburg, Montana
Nestled in the heart of Big Sky country, The Ranch at Rock Creek is an all-season, all-inclusive resort for the adventurous — or those looking to live out their Yellowstone fantasies. Luxury log cabins, opening to a view of majestic mountains and lush meadows, will leave guests in awe of the great outdoors. These luxury accommodations feature a variety of spa-like amenities, including an eight-person cedar sauna and on-deck hot tubs, perfect for stargazing at night.
What sets this ranch apart from others is its comprehensive range of amenities, including twice-daily activities such as hiking and cross-country skiing in the winter, and fly fishing and archery in the summer. Guests who are feeling adventurous can try their hand at ice fishing.

Wharekauhau Country Estate, Palliser Bay, New Zealand
A departure from the wide open ranges of Montana and Wyoming, New Zealand’s Wharekauhau Country Estate is situated atop a hill overlooking ten miles of Pacific coastline. Channelling country elegance, the estate’s cottages and villa feel more like a chateau in the South of France than 3,000 acres of farmland, but the locale opens guests up to a host of distinct experiences, arguably the biggest draw to Wharekauhau. For the adventurous wine lovers, The Signature Foley Wine Flight — including a private helicopter ride to nearby Te Kairanga vineyard — allows guests to experience some of the country’s best wineries (and enjoy gourmet bites while sampling exquisite wine). Patrons opting to stay closer to home can indulge in everything the land has to offer with a destination picnic, enjoying dishes expertly cooked by a private chef at carefully curated stops around the estate.

Estancia Vik, Uruguay
For an international take on luxe ranching, Estancia Vik offers visitors immersion into not only nature but also the beauty of Uruguayan art. Located on 4,000 acres of countryside in José Ignacio, this Spanish-style estancia is crafted with blanched white adobe walls and red tin roofs, ideal for keeping cool in the South American heat. A cross between the plains of Marlboro Country and the sophistication of St. Tropez, the grounds and expansive patio are thoughtfully curated with sculpture installations and an organic herb garden.

This ranch isn’t just about highlighting the natural beauty of Uruguay’s coast, but also sharing the beauty of its local artists. Each of the ranch’s 12 suites has a unique design, incorporating original art by leading contemporary Uruguayan artists, all curated to enhance each space. For those venturing outdoors, a professional polo field — with the opportunity for lessons – offers an alternative experience on horseback. Foodies will find their place with the ranch’s gastronomic offerings, like El Asador, a restaurant that pays homage to traditional Uruguayan barbecue.

El Colibri Estancia de Charme, Córdoba, Argentina

Set in the country’s Pampas (grasslands), this all-inclusive boutique ranch features six intimate rooms and three suites, drawing inspiration from the historical estancias of the 20th century.
