This Valentine’s Day, treat yourself and your significant other to a romantic getaway in a sumptuous setting. Sure, you may have forgotten to make a plan, or just locked a new partner down in time for the big day. That doesn’t mean it’s too late to whisk them away.

From a cushy Ontario winter retreat with dining caves to Costa Rican thermal hot springs and an Argentinian chocolate paradise, these enchanting locales feature amenities suited to vacations for two (or more, if that’s your thing). And plus: the views are to die for.

Baccarat Hotel || New York, New York

For couples who prefer vacationing in urban settings, the Baccarat Hotel is located right in the heart of New York City. The five-star establishment provides an escape from the frenetic pace of the city when needed, but is also mere steps away from famous landmarks like Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center. And only a few blocks south is a classic rom-com spot: the Empire State Building for those keen to recreate a scene or two.

Inside the hotel, indulge in all the amenities: a rain shower or deep-soaking tub, depending on which French-inspired room or suite you choose. On Valentine’s Day weekend, reserve your spot at the Baccarat’s tea for two event—appropriately called “Steeped in Love.” The experience comes with chocolate truffles and a rosé cocktail. Or you can head to the spa for some pampering, where the “Blissful Amour” package includes a couples’ massage as well as champagne and chocolate-covered fruit—served to you in an indoor cabana, right beside the heated pool. Who needs the tropics?

The Springs Resort and Spa || La Fortuna, Costa Rica

The Costa Rican town of La Fortuna features dozens of hotels with natural hot springs on site. But if you’re looking for an extra-intimate experience for two, the Honeymoon Vista Guest Room at the lavish Springs Resort and Spa comes with a private spring-fed jacuzzi. The room also offers a stunning view of the nearby active Arenal Volcano

Both Keeping Up With the Kardashians and The Bachelor have used this breathtaking resort, situated 1000 feet above the Arenal Valley, as a shooting location. Also on site: stunning waterfalls, an animal sanctuary and, for a more unique experience, an adventure centre with a wildcat feeding tour. Smack in the middle of dry season, February is an excellent time to visit Costa Rica (especially for those who love a little heat).

The Loren at Pink Beach || Tucker’s Town, Bermuda

This Valentine’s Day, The Loren at Pink Beach in Bermuda is hosting an Uchi pop-up. The upscale dining experience features a 10-course dinner and is inspired by the Austin, Texas restaurant Uchi, which translates to “house,” guaranteed to provide a home-made feeling, but with a far more adventurous backdrop. The restaurant describes its dishes as “non-traditional Japanese cuisine” and was founded by award-winning chef and restaurateur Tyson Cole.

The hotel itself boasts private villas, mixology classes and a Dine & Wine series, featuring Filipino, Sri Lankan and Caribbean meals if you’re curious to try something new or are craving a taste of home. Outside the resort, like many of the beaches in Bermuda, the sand is rose-coloured—perfect for the most romantic day of the year. (Don’t try to pack any of the sand into your suitcase on the way home, though—it’s illegal.)

What says Valentine’s Day more than chocolate? The picturesque mountain town of Bariloche, in Patagonia, is often referred to as the chocolate capital of Argentina, and is a two-hour flight from Buenos Aires. On the heavenly Mitre Street, you’ll find chocolate shop after chocolate shop. Pick up chocolate-covered raspberries at one of the street’s most famous chocolate retailers, Rapanui, or try some gelato at Mamuschka.

At night, stay at the five-star Llao Llao Hotel, where you’ll be treated to a gorgeous view featuring the snow-covered Andes. Accommodation options include a rustic-chic lake cabin with a fireplace, with a variety of gourmet restaurants on the resort.

Cape Hotel || Los Cabos, Mexico

Plunge pools and private balconies are among the amenities offered in the rooms at the Cape Hotel in Los Cabos, Mexico if you’re in the mood to never step outside the bedroom. It’s not a bad idea: every single room at the luxury escape overlooks El Arco and the Bahia Cabo San Lucas horizon. And don’t be inhibited by a guest room; go all out and opt for a sprawling villa on the property.

If you do decide to venture outside, however, the posh accommodations at the beachfront Hyatt hotel, you can swim in one of the two pools—saltwater and infinity—or watch the sunset together from the rooftop lounge. Alternatively, you can grab a bite at Manta, where chef Abisai Sanchez opts for local Baja California ingredients for the restaurant’s coastal cuisine.

Cabot Cape Breton || Inverness, Nova Scotia

You don’t necessarily have to leave the country to spoil yourself and your beloved. The Cabot Cape Breton resort is primarily known as a golf destination, but the gorgeous ocean views can be enjoyed year-round. The opulence extends to travel—the Cabot offers helicopter rides to and from the airport. And dining options include three restaurants on hotel grounds, which use produce from local farms and seafood directly from the Atlantic.

The hotel is in the town of Inverness, where outdoorsy types can ski and snowshoe on local trails. If you’d rather stay indoors and soak up Cape Breton culture, enjoy a meal and glass of whiskey at the Glenora Inn and Distillery. The onsite Washback Pub hosts Ceilidh gatherings—Scottish and Irish social events that traditionally feature storytelling, music and dance.
